$3,000 RAISED AT BIKERS FOR BARC! 2011

WKRG.com News

125 motorcycle riders from all over the Gulf Coast raised over $3,000 in the recent BIKERS FOR BARC! poker run for the abused, abandoned and injured animals that are rescued by the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!).

Entry fee included a donation of canned or dry dog/cat food to the BARC! Pet Food Pantry which resulted in almost 1,000 pounds.

The 82-mile scenic route concluded Cobalt the Restaurant, located next to Caribe Resort in Orange Beach, where prizes were awarded.

Matt Burton of Spanish Fort held the best poker hand; he won a 4 day/3 night stay at Tidewater 204, an Orange Beach condo valued at $600 donated by Chad and Emily Mitchell with The Seamitchell.com Team with Remax Realty Centre.

Vaughan McFarland of Bon Secour got fabulous consulation prizes for holding the worst poker hand.

”We surpassed our fundraising goal by 50%” remarked Sonja Presley, BARC! Executive Director. “The success of this event is attributed to Debi and Jim Munsey, event organizers, who chose a fabulous route that everyone enjoyed and they got $1,000 in raffle prizes donated from businesses all around Baldwin County.  There was so much enthusiasm from the riders that we're already planning the second one.”

BARC! is a no-kill adoption agency (rather than a shelter). They are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit established in 1979; they were the first and remain the only county-wide animal welfare agency. Its goal is to eliminate the number of abused and abandoned pets through spay/neuter, education, rescue and adoption.

Renee & Tim Beasley, owners of the Chrome Horse Pub in Silverhill, gave the winner of their chili cookoff a $100. Ronnie Henley donated it to the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) and got his employer, ECOVERY LLC in Loxley to match it. Brian Cunningham, Logistics & Customer Service Manager of ECOVERY LLC presented the 2nd $100 check to BARC! Executive Director Sonja Presley. The Chrome Horse Pub is the 1st stop on the BIKERS FOR BARC! June 11, 2011. Jim & Debi Munsey, event organizers, will lead the motorcycle ride with their Collie "Deuce" who has his own coupe. American Daredevil Bubba Blackwell, World Record Harley-Davidson XR-750 Motorcycle Jumper, joins Sonja Presley, BARC! Executive Director, to invite everyone to ride in BIKERS FOR BARC! poker run on June 11, 2011. The motorcycle ride will raise money for the homeless, abused and abandoned animals in Baldwin County, AL.

1st Annual BIKERS FOR BARC!

June 11, 2011

BIKERS FOR BARC! motorcycle poker run set for June 11, 2011, is for the abused, abandoned and injured animals that are rescued by the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!).

Debi and Jim Munsey, event organizers, commented “Bikers love animals and they are very generous. Between entry fees, raffle prizes and 50/50 tickets, we hope to raise $2,000.” The Munseys will lead the ride with the Deuce Coupe, a sidecar their Collie “Deuce” rides in.
“This fundraiser was the Munsey’s notion; they have been planning it for months and they’ve got a scenic route stopping at fabulous restaurants” stated Sonja Presley, BARC! Executive Director.  “100% of the proceeds go to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming more animals.”
World Record Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Jumper Bubba Blackwell encourages the community to support BIKERS FOR BARC!  All of his family’s animals are rescues, so he knows how important BARC’s work is. Blackwell will be on tour with the Harley-Davidson stunt show this summer, but he made a video appeal.
Entry fee to BIKERS FOR BARC! is $10 and a donation of canned or dry dog/cat food to the BARC! Pet Food Pantry.
Registration starts at 9:30am at H&D Cycles in Lillian; last bike out is 11:30am. The 82-mile route stops at the Chrome Horse Pub in Silverhill, Aurora’s and the BARC! office in Fairhope; Tin Top Restaurant in Bon Secour then Cosmo’s Restaurant in Orange Beach.
Last bike in is 4:00pm at Cobalt the Restaurant, located next to Caribe Resort in Orange Beach. If you do not ride but still want to participate in the event that day, join the end party and partake in the $10 buffet while having a breath-taking view of the bay and Perdido Pass.
Prizes will be awarded at 5pm; best poker hand gets a 4 day/3 night stay at Tidewater 204, an Orange Beach condo valued at $600 donated by The Seamitchell.com Team with Remax Realty Centre. Click here to view it.
BARC! is an adoption agency (rather than a shelter) who averages rehoming 300 dogs and cats annually. All donations, no matter the size, are important and will benefit the 501(c)3 not-for-profit established in 1979 that was the county’s first and only county-wide animal advocacy group. For more information, call 251.928.4585.
